About Empowered Wealth™
The World is Changing…
Volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity are the new “normal”. Driven by shifting demographics, political and economic tensions, and exponential technology, many long-standing traditions, institutions, social patterns, and ways of life are being disrupted daily.
With the Baby Boomer generation now retiring, the world is on the cusp of the largest transfer of wealth in history. Experts estimate as much as $41 trillion will be transferred from one generation to the next. In addition, there are twelve million businesses owned by Baby Boomers in the United States. It is estimated that only four million of these businesses will succeed to the next generation; eight million will be sold, go public, or merely shut down. Many professionals believe that families are ill-prepared for this transfer of wealth from one generation to the next that’s about to occur. Even more ominous is the potential negative impact that this transfer of wealth could have on numerous families.
In the midst of this volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity, how can people thrive? How can you create Sustainable Prosperity®?
Thriving in a World of Disruption and Change
Historically, people have thoughtfully planned, invested wisely, legally structured their affairs well, implemented accountability systems, and established effective ongoing governance processes. Yet, large amounts of family wealth have consistently been squandered, mismanaged, or lost. Why? What has been missing is a philosophical framework and a set of organizing principles that can empower people, especially families, and guide their wealth management decisions now and in the future.
Empowered Wealth® provides this framework and the organizing set of principles as well as the tools to implement and sustain this philosophy and these principles over time.
How do we do what we do?
Our vision is to work with entrepreneurially-minded families who can contribute significantly to society. Our approach is based upon The Empowered Wealth Mindset™, a set of attitudes that focuses on Family Leadership, Gratitude, and a unique definition of Enduring Wealth™ that encompasses all assets (not just financial assets).
Enduring Wealth™
Would you rather be “rich” or “wealthy”? What’s the difference? “Rich” is having abundant financial assets: money, real estate, investments, material possessions, etc. But what other assets do you possess that you value more than these financial assets? Most people say that they value their family, their health, and their faith more than financial assets. Empowered Wealth calls these “core” assets.
Empowered True Wealth™ has identified four categories of assets:
Core Assets: your family, values, faith, health, and the individual well-being of each family member;
Experience Assets: good and bad experiences, education, reputation, networks, knowledge, and the wisdom of each family member;
Contribution Assets: contributions made to the well-being of others;
Financial Assets: money, real estate, investments, material possessions.
These asset categories are the elements of Empowered Enduring Wealth™. Enduring Wealth is more than the assets themselves; it involves the dynamic, ever-changing interaction and balance of these assets. It’s what we call True Wealth Optimization.
Seeing the world through the lens of Empowered Enduring Wealth™, clarity, and focus on what really matters emerges. Thus, unlike traditional planning practices, financial and estate planning based on Empowered Enduring Wealth™ Optimization focuses on all assets, not just financial assets. Empowered Enduring Wealth™ Optimization involves leveraging all assets through an attitude of gratitude and strong family leadership.
The Empowered Wealth Mindset™
Bankers, lawyers, trust officers, accountants, life insurance agents, and wealth managers have historically focused on minimizing taxes and maximizing the amount of money that passes from one generation to another. Numerous studies indicate that this approach results in over ninety percent of the original family wealth being lost and dissipated by the end of the third generation.
The Empowered Wealth Mindset™, on the other hand, focuses on Gratitude, Enduring Wealth, and Family Leadership to inform wealth management decision-making. Ultimately, our approach guides a family leader in the ongoing work of building, strengthening, and sustaining the culture of the family (Enduring Prosperity®).
