Lee Brower’s Life Coaching Lesson: Suffering and Choices

By Ron Nakamoto

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way”

– Viktor Frankl, “Man’s Search for Meaning”

Lee Brower often shares two simple, related axioms:

The Event does not equal the Outcome but rather the Event plus our Response equals the Outcome.

We all face challenging, often gut-wrenching experiences in our lives. Yet, we can all choose to respond in life-enhancing ways rather than in destructive ways. In the video below, Lee shares insights on suffering in a quote by Anne Morrow Lindbergh.

Lee briefly touches on the “Lindbergh kidnapping“, the abduction and murder of their young son, as an example of extreme suffering and the courage it takes to live a meaningful life in the wake of tragedies and suffering. Not surprisingly, Lee Brower is an advocate for learning in even the most difficult circumstances.
